During the campaign „The Kunsthistorisches Museum in the Public Arena“ between November 6 and 20, the KHM displayed reproductions of paintings in the streets and squares of Vienna – thus coming to where the people are.
29 popular or centrally-located squares in Vienna became the site of these displays: walls, building sites, underground stations, train stations and shops. Academics from the KHM chatted with passers-by, telling them interesting and entertaining things about the painting on display, encouraging them to take a new look at art.
After the successful „open house at the KHM“ in January, this was another strong signal about opening the museum to the public by literally reaching out to the people in the city. Getting people into art was the aim. By telling stories about the artwork the „old masters“ were brought to life.
